Our Story

Our story begins in the 1950’s. Demetri Sofroniou, my grandfather, opened a small bakers shop in Islington in 1957 and began supplying the local community with handmade and traditional Greek bread. When he retired, he passed the business onto his son, my uncle George, who had grown up working in the family business.  

George expanded the business with the help of his three brothers, Stelios, Nicholas and Andros. He successfully entered the pitta bread market, making our pitta bread a favourite among Greek and non- Greek households. In 1995, George decided to focus on their new pitta bread bakery and myself, Andy Sofroniou, a third-generation baker, proudly continued my grandfather's legacy.

 

During the 40 years I baked alongside my uncle George and father Nicholas, I gained an incredible amount of knowledge and expertise in this industry.  Ready to add to the business they built, I took it into the catering trade, supplying our freshly made products to restaurants, hotels, cafés and more. More recently we have begun producing speciality breads, and year on year we hope to broaden our product range, adding new and exciting products, to ensure that we have something for everyone!

 

We are passionate bakers with a commitment to our community and we plan on continuing this tradition for years to come. We have not sacrificed quality for growth and we still take one hundred percent pride in everything we produce. We believe in using only the finest and freshest ingredients to create the highest quality products possible from our original recipes. We are fully equipped with the most efficient and modern bakery equipment and everything is freshly baked each morning by our team of skilled bakers and confectioners.

Since 1957, it has always been our mission to honour an impeccable service to our customers, whilst delivering them with the freshest and tastiest products.
